Inspiring Excellence:  A Case for Supporting The Falcon Fund

The Florida Preparatory Academy Foundation for Educational Development Mission

The Florida Preparatory Academy Foundation for Educational Development, Inc., was established in February of 2024 for the purpose of providing a not-for-profit avenue to support all aspects of the FPA program.

Why Your Support Matters

Tuition alone does not cover the full cost of educating each student in private schools.  For that reason, these schools rely on the generosity of their community to sustain and grow their mission. Our school is no different.  Your gift—regardless of size—has a direct and lasting impact on our students, faculty, and the future of the Falcon Community.

Five Opportunities to Make a Difference

The Annual Fund

The Annual Fund is the foundation of giving at private schools. Contributions to the Annual Fund provide immediate, flexible support where it is needed most—enhancing classroom instruction, arts and athletics, technology, and student life. Each gift ensures that our students continue to benefit from a rich, well-rounded education every day.

Gifts to the annual fund can be directed towards specific areas:

  • Greatest Need: Allow the FPA Administration to direct your gift where it is needed most;
  • Financial Aid: Take pride in providing assistance to new generations of Falcons with financial need;
  • Faculty: Support FPA’s passionate faculty as they pursue excellence at the forefront of their fields through meaningful, significant professional development opportunities;
  • Academics: Improve the classroom experience by supporting enhancements to our rigorous curriculum;
  • Athletics: Make a positive impact on our athletes by providing improved safety equipment, upgraded uniforms and professional development opportunities for our coaches;
  • Arts: Enrich FPA’s stand-out visual and performing arts programs;
  • Robotics: Replenish equipment for our already successful robotics team;
  • Buildings and Grounds: Honor our historic buildings and beautiful  campus;
  • Lectureships: Provide named sponsorship for a community lecture series (example: The John Doe Lecture Series on Global Warming).

    Annual Fund Goal: 100% participation from families, alumni, faculty, and friends.
    Impact: Every dollar supports students and teachers.

Scholarship Support

Educators devote their life’s work to having a positive impact on students by providing them with a well-rounded, life education.  Those who are not educators can have the same opportunity to impact students’ lives by assisting them to attend quality private schools.  The Falcon Foundation has in place a program which does just that - provides people, companies and organizations who value education the chance to help students make private school education affordable.  These are called named scholarships, and options include:

  • $500 - Senior Activities Fee for a designated senior
  • $1,000 pledge to a particular student for 4 years
    • Student is anonymous
    • Donor’s name published each year in Foundation Report
    • Donor has input in criteria for scholarship award
  • $5,000 pledge for 4 years - Student Tuition Fund for Needy Family
    • Student is anonymous; however, the donor receives quarterly information about the student's grades, participation, accomplishments, etc.
    • Donor’s name published each year in Foundation Report
    • Donor has input in criteria for scholarship award
  • Full tuition pledge (contact Admissions Office for amount)
    • Student is anonymous; however, the donor receives quarterly information about the student's grades, participation, accomplishments, etc.
    • Donor’s name published each year in Foundation Report
    • Donor appraised of student’s graduation and college plans
    • Donor has input in criteria for scholarship award

These scholarship awards would be provided to students in need - students who meet our school’s entrance requirements but whose families cannot afford the full tuition.  Unless the donor wishes to remain anonymous, their name will be attached to the scholarship (ie. The John Smith Scholarship) in our annual Foundation Report.  Named scholarships are often named for alumni, someone who is deceased, or another special person.  Because of the school’s not-for-profit foundation, all donations are tax deductible.

Impact: Each scholarship gift changes the life of a student and enriches our entire community.  For specific financial commitment, contact the Admissions Office.

Faculty Endowments

Great teachers are at the heart of our mission. Endowed faculty positions support excellence in teaching by funding salaries, professional development, and academic innovation. These gifts ensure we attract and retain outstanding educators.

  • Professional Development Fund
  • Faculty Endowment

Your Impact: Sustains teaching excellence for generations to come.

Naming Opportunities

Honor a loved one, celebrate a family legacy, or inspire future generations by naming a space on campus. Naming opportunities range from classrooms and science labs to athletic facilities and performance spaces.  Below is a list of some naming opportunities that are currently available. If you have questions about any of the facilities listed or want to learn more about upcoming opportunities, don’t hesitate to reach out.

A naming opportunity gift agreement is a legal document outlining the terms under which a donor provides a significant financial contribution to an organization in exchange for the right to name a physical space, program, or initiative. These agreements are crucial for
both donors and the recipient organization, ensuring clarity and mutual understanding of the terms and conditions associated with the naming recognition

Examples Include:

  • The Doe Family Science Lab
  • The Smith Family Technology Center
  • The Mrs. Lepper Learning Center [named after a beloved former teacher]
  • The Joe Jones Athletic Center
  • The Roger Smith Tennis Center
  • The Levan Sands Athletic Field
  • The John Frank Student Center

Suggested donation amount (by individual or group)
Regular Classroom - $10,000
Specialized Classroom (labs) - $15,000
Common Areas (Example: Tennis Courts, Performing Arts Center) - $25,000
Large Common Areas (example: Gym, Dining Hall, Building) - $50,000
Naming gifts not only enhance our facilities—they become part of our school’s lasting legacy.

Planned Giving

Leave a legacy of learning through a planned gift. By including the Foundation in your estate plans—through a bequest, charitable trust, or life insurance policy—you ensure that future generations benefit from the transformative education we provide.  In many cases, a deferred gift enables a donor to make a more significant contribution than would be possible through an outright gift. Planned gifts require careful thought and analysis with a mindful eye toward income, estate, and tax consequences. You can provide for your family and ensure that future Falcon students have all the advantages that your family has enjoyed. And, by including charitable gifts in your will, you may create significant tax advantages for your estate.

Charitable Bequest: Instruct your attorney to add a charitable bequest for the Florida Preparatory Academy Foundation for Educational Development to your estate plan for a specific amount, a specific property, or for a percentage of the estate.

Examples:

  • Retirement Plans
    • Designate the Foundation to receive part or all of what remains of your retirement plan after your death. Such a transfer can be a very tax-efficient way to make a gift. For example, heirs may receive as little as 30% of a retirement plan from a large estate after estate tax and income tax. The Foundation will receive all of it tax-free.
  • Insurance Policies
    • Designate the Foundation to receive all or part of the proceeds of a life insurance policy. Ask your insurance company for a beneficiary designation form.
  • A Charitable Remainder Trust
    • You can transfer cash or securities to a trust which distributes annual payments to you for life and leave the remainder to the charities of your choice. This option protects you from up-front capital gains tax on donated appreciated assets and will allow an immediate income tax deduction for a portion of your contribution while ensuring a future gift to the Foundation.
  • Real Estate
    • Gifts of residential or commercial real estate may be something you consider. Land, vacation homes, farms or income producing properties can bring great benefits to future Falcons.
