Florida Prep is proud to introduce its new groundbreaking Global Citizenship and Leadership Program for the 2023/2024 academic year.
Led by Lt. Col Dean Fitzgerald, this innovative program consists of 3 classes over the course of a student’s career at Florida
Prep. It includes one middle school class and two high school classes, with a focus on fostering cross-cultural understanding, developing leadership skills, and promoting active global engagement, while simultaneously preparing Florida Prep students to thrive in an interconnected and diverse world.
Middle School Experience: Building Bridges across Borders
The Global Citizenship Program at Florida Prep begins in middle school.
Students will embark upon a transformative journey of cross-cultural collaboration where they will engage in a unique partnership with the Evangelisches Schulzentrum Radebeul (ESZ) school in Germany, learn how to build connections and plant the first seeds in their journey towards building a global perspective.
Through joint projects and interactive exchanges with students from ESZ, middle school students will develop essential skills such as effective communication, teamwork and cultural sensitivity. These experiences will broaden their horizons, enhance critical thinking and problem solving abilities and foster a deeper appreciation for diversity and their role as future global citizens.
High School Experience: Nurturing Future Global Leaders
Building upon the foundation established in middle school, the high school phase of the Global Citizenship Program further empowers students to become effective global citizens and leaders.
In The Global Citizen class, students will focus on five tenets of Global Citizenship: building strong relationships across borders, developing leaders with Global perspective, cultivating awareness and respect for other cultures, engagement in the local and global community, and developing the skills necessary to survive in the 21st Century.
The Global Leadership class is dedicated to more deeply exploring the leadership skills global leaders need, harnessing the unique assets that make Florida Prep an outstanding international academy. This will include participation in the prestigious Model United Nations. (MUN).
Within the framework of the MUN, students will engage in simulated UN sessions, honing their negotiation, public speaking, research and diplomatic skills. They will tackle global issues, collaborate with peers, and develop a nuanced understanding of international relations. A highlight of the program is the opportunity for students to attend a Model real United Nations conference.
By immersing themselves in the world of international diplomacy and engaging with scholars from around the globe, Florida Prep students will gain firsthand experience and insights into global affairs, while simultaneously enhancing their perspective and fostering a sense of responsibility as global citizens.
As we delve into global issues we will draw upon the diverse student and multicultural environment within the Florida Prep community, explore and develop leadership styles, encourage public speaking and foster community outreach.
Upon completion of this program, students will be awarded a special citation on their diploma. This comprehensive training model will not only equip Florida Prep students with the skills and knowledge needed to navigate the complexities of our interconnected world, but also to embrace the diversity of ideas, nurture empathy and foster collaboration as they prepare for future roles in the global arena.
