The fourth Florida Prep Experiential Learning Week; beginning 8th March, 2021, was fully subscribed within days; highlighting a continued surge in interest since the program’s inception in 2018.
A new concept for many parents, Experiential Learning is no ‘School Trip’, instead it is an engaged learning process whereby students “learn by doing” and by reflecting on the experience. Experiential learning activities can include, but are not limited to, hands-on laboratory experiments, internships, field exercises and studio performances.
This year’s program will see Florida Prep students travel outside the state to New Orleans in Louisiana and to the Blue Ridge Mountains in North West Georgia.
Within the state of Florida: South to the Florida Keys, West to Orlando, East to the beaches and waterways of the Space Coast and centrally, to locations across Brevard County.
In addition, a number of Florida Prep students have chosen to undertake internships; having applied for, interviewed and been accepted at a number of high-profile Melbourne area companies, specializing in their future career or academic interest.
These well-planned, supervised and assessed experiential learning programs stimulate academic inquiry by promoting:
Reflection and critical analysis.
Offering students the opportunity to take initiative, make decisions, and be accountable for the results.
Engage on tasks intellectually, creatively, socially, and physically.
Learn experiences that include the possibility to fail, make mistakes, and succeed.
Experiential Week is a mandatory week of activity enjoyed by the entire Florida Prep school community; we hold no on-campus classes during that week. However, students are required to submit reports and complete homework each day.
All activities are chaperoned by Florida Prep faculty and staff, with age restrictions as appropriate. Trip fees vary to accommodate all budgets and are published early to allow for financial flexibility.
If you are looking for a unique school program, Experiential Learning week is only a small part of the Florida Prep curriculum, designed to allow for personal and academic growth and success.
