2018 Summer Session Course Options - July 9 through August 3



Summer Tennis

Full-Day Sessions:

July 9 – August 3

8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Monday – Friday

Half-Day Sessions:

Mornings: 8:30 - 11:30 a.m.

Afternoon: 12:00 - 3:00 p.m.


CLASS OPTIONS

Week# 1: (July 9 - 13, 2018)

Botany */**

(Morning Session)

During FPA’s botany summer program, students will learn the basics of plant science, perform experiments and scientific inquiries, and examine the relationship between plants and the natural world.

Tennis */**

(Morning Session)

Grab your tennis racket and get ready to play! Whether you’re a beginning, an intermediate or an advanced player, this program will improve your game and help you get more enjoyment from tennis. Our tennis programs focus on skill refinement as well as practice and match play to develop consistent, well-rounded tennis players. Each player is given personal attention and taught through repetition in an enjoyable, lively atmosphere.

Public Speaking *

(Morning Session)

Intro to Public Speaking is a class designed to help students be confident in their public speaking skills. Additionally, students will be able to give briefings, face-to-face interviews, presentations, and understand how leaders model values to their organization. Utilizing these skills will help equip students for the 21st Century workplace, and further ready students for collaboration in college and beyond.

Horticulture */**

(Full Day Session)

If you have a green thumb, this course is for you! Learn what plants attract animals, are edible, or serve medicinal purposes. Help create an edible landscape that doubles as a butterfly sanctuary. Participants will also grow plants for their own gardens.

Physics and Space Science *

(Full Day Session)

During FPA’s Physics and Space Science session students will learn the fundamental background of space exploration and discovery. As part of this course, students will participate in a one-day field trip to the Kennedy Space Center.

Survival Swimming

(Afternoon Session)

During FPA’s survival swim course, students will learn water safety, basic survival swimming techniques, and become more comfortable with aquatic environments.

Underwater Robotics */**

(Afternoon Session)

During FPA’s Underwater Robotics session, students will learn the background of underwater robotics and how to assemble, control, and maneuver an underwater ROV.

Guitar */**

(Afternoon Session)

Intro to Guitar will teach students the basic fundamentals of the guitar. Learning basic chord structure and strumming patterns, students will gain the confidence to play a brand new instrument.

Multicultural Arts and Crafts */**

(Morning or Afternoon Session)

A summer program giving the opportunity to explore arts and crafts from around the world.

Each project will be customized to the age of each student and technical ability using a variety of mixed media.

NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Week #2: (July 16 - 20, 2018)

Botany */**

(Morning Session)

During FPA’s botany summer program, students will learn the basics of plant science, preform experiments and scientific inquiries, and examine the relationship between plants and the natural world.

Middle School Basketball */**

Two experienced coaches will work with middle school aged players, concentrating on basic skills and fundamentals. We will emphasize all defensive skills, ball handling, shooting, rebounding and knowledge of the game.

Water Sports */**

(Morning Session)

How you like would to spend your summer surfing, boogie boarding and paddle boarding the warm waters of Brevard County? Join FPA as we discovery Florida‘s mangroves of the Indian River Lagoon. You will receive a 10 minute pre tour lesson on paddle boarding prior to entering the water. On days that we aren’t paddle boarding, we will be going to different locations surfing and boogie boarding throughout Brevard County. Paddle boards will be provided. Please supply your own surfboard or boogie board. Rental options will be available if needed.

Forensic Science *

(Full Day Session)

Experience what it’s like to be on CSI by using the same techniques used by scientists at crime scenes. Daily labs include blood splatter analysis, fiber identification, and dusting for fingerprints.

Physics and Space Science *

(Full Day Session)

During FPA’s Physics and Space Science session students will learn the fundamental background of space exploration and discovery. As part of this course, students will participate in a one-day field trip to the Kennedy Space Center

Rocketry **

(Full Day Session)

During FPA’s Rocketry session, students will learn the fundamental background of space exploration and types of rockets. As part of this course, students will participate in a one-day field trip to the Kennedy Space Center

Food Science */**

(Afternoon Session)

During FPA’s food science summer course, students will learn the basics behind food science, perform experiments, and examine their own relationship with food.

Public Speaking **

(Afternoon Session)

Intro to Public Speaking is a class designed to help students be confident in their public speaking skills. Grab some golf clubs and get ready to spend time on the golf course. Students will access the local golf course to learn basic skills and enhance their golf game.

Marine Biology*

(Full Day Session)

Gain and up close and hands on experience with the best part of Coastal Florida – the beach! Activities include water sampling, seashell collection and ID, marine mammals, and possible restoration project to improve turtle habitat.

SAT Preparation Boot Camp

(Afternoon Session)

SAT Preparation Boot Camp is a session designed to review and practice skills and topics covered on the SAT exam. Students will take a mock SAT exam and examine areas of strength and weakness.

College Boot Camp

(Afternoon Session)

College Boot Camp is a session designed to help answer questions about college applications and the application process. Through work with the school’s college placement officer, students will learn about NCAA registration, SAT and ACT requirements and basic application guidelines.

(Full Day Session)

Participants will gain an enhanced appreciation for animals through observation, dissection, and husbandry. This course also includes a day trip to Brevard Zoo
