Welcome from the President

On behalf of the entire Florida Preparatory Academy family, I welcome you to our school. We are proud to develop young men and women who blend academic ability, integrity and good character, along with a knowledge of world cultures, into a powerful force—well prepared for future success, growth, and leadership.

I am honored to celebrate my 25th year working at Florida Preparatory Academy and serving as President of this fine institution—founded by my father in 1961 with a strong sense of academic, community, and family values. At the start of the school year, we welcome several new staff members to the FPA family and are in the process of finishing campus upgrades, expanding our library, completing renovations in the dorms, strengthening our technology infrastructure, and working on a new AFJROTC obstacle course.

As the cornerstone of our focus on 21st Century learning, Florida Preparatory Academy is proud to offer a one-to-one Apple iPad Program. By incorporating digital learning standards into the curriculum, teachers can help students navigate and analyze information in a collaborative environment. Students are also provided with early goal-setting strategies, after-school academic assistance, and college planning and preparation throughout the year. We are extremely proud that FPA graduates continue on to the college or university of their choice, and are always pleased to receive feedback and visits from our alumni who are doing wonderful things!

The fact that Florida Preparatory Academy has been a family-oriented school from day one creates a unique atmosphere that pervades all aspects of school life. In addition to teaching academics and life-skills, we also strive to provide a wide variety of extracurricular activities. This year we’re introducing fencing and lacrosse, in addition to archery, driver’s education, flight training, SCUBA, skateboarding and surfing. We’re also planning trips to Florida state parks, natural springs, zip-lining adventures, and other destinations that celebrate the history and natural beauty found here in Florida.

As a multi-cultural school, however, our contributions span well beyond Florida. Students also come from many states throughout the U.S. and from more than 23 countries around the world. Each student leaves here with an appreciation of other regions and cultures, and has developed far-reaching friendships that will last a lifetime. In October we will raise new country flags in the Hall of Flags, further expanding our cultural diversity.

At Florida Preparatory Academy, the focus is the future. I look forward to what promises to be a highly successful school year ahead—and hope your tour through this website will be the starting point for a long-lasting relationship with the Florida Preparatory Academy family.

Warm Regards,

James Dwight
